About the exam

Important dates

The Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT) is a national computer-based test for entry to M.Pharm courses. NBEMS conducts it, declares the result and hands it to the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI). Counselling and admissions are run by the authorities concerned, not NBEMS.

The GPAT 2027 bulletin is awaited from NBEMS. Until it's out, the exam details on this page follow the GPAT 2026 information bulletin, and the 2026 dates are shown only for reference.

  5. Pharmacognosy & allied10 Qs40 marks · 8% · ~14 min

NBEMS calls this blueprint indicative. Minutes are at exam pace: 180 minutes for 125 questions, about 1.44 minutes each. Chemistry, pharmaceutics and pharmacology together carry 104 of the 125 questions.

Percentile, rank and qualifying, explained

  • 1Rank is your overall merit position among everyone who appeared in that year's GPAT. NBEMS does not prepare category-wise or state-wise merit lists.
  • 2To qualify, you need at least the 50th percentile (General / EWS) or the 45th percentile (OBC / SC / ST, and PwBD of any category), and a place within the top 10% of all candidates who appeared, in merit order.
  • 3That top 10% is shared out by category:
40.5%UR
27%OBC
15%SC
10%EWS
7.5%ST

Each category keeps 5% for PwBD candidates (40% or more disability). Candidates below the last qualified rank but on the same score or percentile are declared not qualified.

When scores tie

  1. Fewer negative (wrong) responses ranks higher
  2. Then the older candidate
  3. Then higher Class XII marks
  4. Then higher Class X marks (CGPA × 9.5)

Exam pattern

The paper and the result

  • Pharmaceutical Chemistry & allied38
  • Pharmaceutics & allied38
  • Pharmacology & allied28
  • Other B.Pharm subjects11
  • Pharmacognosy & allied10

Multiple choice with 4 options, in English only. +4 for a correct answer, −1 for a wrong one (25% negative marking), 0 if unattempted. The paper runs in time-bound sections: with 5 sections, each has 25 questions and 36 minutes, and you can't go back to a section once its time ends.

  1. CBT

    125 MCQs, 180 minutes, one computer-based paper.

  2. Result

Raw marks under the final answer key give your score and all-India rank.

  3. Qualify

50th percentile (45th for OBC, SC, ST, PwBD) and the top 10% of candidates.

  4. Use the score

For M.Pharm and PhD admission at PCI-approved institutions. Valid 3 years.

Should you guess?

ABCD
+0.25Blind guess, 1 in 4
ABCD
+0.67One option ruled out
ABCD
+1.50Two ruled out

Expected marks per guess = 4 × P(correct) − 1 × P(wrong). With +4 / −1, even a blind guess gains on average. The catch: if your score ties with others, fewer wrong answers ranks higher. We train elimination on every mock.
